California Teachers Union
What are they whining about?
The California Federation of Teachers is voicing their support for Mumia Abu-Jamal, a man convicted of murdering a Philadelphia police officer during a routine traffic stop in 1981. Why now? They felt the “reaffirmation” of their “traditional support for him would be timely.” This is the equivalent of voicing support for a political candidate whose campaign ended over a decade ago. It’s over. Nobody gives a shit. Rage Against the Machine released a song supporting this dread-locked con-artist back in 1999. This reaffirms my suspicion that teachers sit around their conference rooms listening to Rage, smoking pot, and wondering “How can we avoid working and simultaneously anger people today?” Just because an African American on death row adamantly proclaims innocence and has vaguely similar hair to Bob Marley, does not mean he’s telling the truth. It certainly doesn’t make him a civil rights hero, or a journalist. This guy is being idolized like Che Guevara or Malcolm X. Unfortunately for Mumia’s fans, he was found at the scene with a bullet wound from the police officer’s firearm, possessing a gun registered in his name that had expended five shells, with which the ballistics matched up, several eye witnesses say he did it, and he later admitted to the crime. Hey teachers, put down the pipe and the “Free Mumia” sign, and get back to teaching America’s youth.
